Variation 7 Ikebana - Floating Arrangement, Spreading Arrangement, Morimono Arrangement
Variation 7 ikebana groups together 3 styles : Floating arrangement, Spreading arrangement and Morimono arrangement. Let's get familiar with each arrangement style. Floating Arrangement
A floating arrangement uses materials that can float in the water. And in this particular arrangement, water is thought as part of the arrangement. Meaning to say, when you fill up water in the container, try to show much of the water. Do not cover the water surface so much with flowers. Using a transparent container is also a good idea. In the example below, I used a mini red anthurium and a yellow gerberra. The stem of the gerberra is used in the arrangement. Arrange the flowers in the most interesting way. Spreading Arrangement
A spreading arrangement is an arrangement which spreads on the table. The flowers sit by itself without any support. Since the flowers have no support, it is best to choose flowers which can last long. Can be used as a table centerpiece. In this example, I used yellow and orange gerberras, draceana leaves, some red rose petals and some vines I picked up from the garden. The yellow gerberras were the focal flowers, with the vines and draceana leaves spreading from the left and the right. The draceana leaves were curled at the end to introduce more interesting feature to the arrangement. To enhance the color, the red rose petals were used. Morimono Arrangement
The morimono arrangement is a bit different, as this style focuses on fruits or vegetables in an ikebana, instead of flowers. Not necessarily fruits or vegetables, you can use materials like plants, seeds, sea-shells or anything non-floral material in this arrangement. Flowers are also used to complement the fruits or vegetables. The chosen flowers should match the color of the fruits or vegetables. Here, I made an arrangement using mangoes and nashi pears. They are arranged in a ceramic bowl, then that bowl is placed in another shallow ceramic container. In the shallow container is a kenzan, mini red anthuriums, great burnet, some beautiful curvy vines and philodendron leaves. The yellowish colored fruits and the red flowers made a beautiful contrast and enhanced the look of the arrangement.
