Getting To Know The Types Of Roses

Roses are probably the most common flower ever known. The types of roses are vast and there are so many choice of colours to choose for doing flower arrangements.

Since roses are common in flower arrangements, why not learn about them.

Basically, they fall in 6 categories : Hybrid Tea, Floribundas, Grandifloras, Shrub/Hedge, Climbers and Miniature.

Hybrid Tea

This is the most popular of the many types of roses. Do you know the rose you get for Valentine's Day? Well, it is a hybrid tea rose. It has long stems and usually one flower per stem.

Examples are like Bewitched, Crimson Glory, Houston, Black Garnet, Bob Hope and Brandy.

Floribundas

This is the most colourful of the many rose types. The shrubs are a bit bushy but the flowers are beautiful as it is produced in clusters of blossoms.

Examples of floribundas are Day Breaker, Betty Boop, French Lace, Salsa and Sunsprite (they really have funny names, don't they?)

Grandifloras

Grandifloras are a cross between Floribundas and Hybrid Tea. They are ideal for cutting. And like the Floribundas, its blooms are often born in clusters.

Examples of grandifloras are Aquarius, Gold Medal and Pink Parfait.

Hedge/Shrub

The Shrub rose grow close to the ground and tend to spread. Gardeners particularly love this type of rose because it has a natural disease resistance, it can grow in variousclimates and little pruning is needed. So, maintenance is fairly easy. The blooms are beautiful, too.

Examples are Bonica, Abraham Darby, Golden Wings, Rabble Rouser and China Doll.

Climbers

As the name suggests, climbers grow on fences. Flowers are plenty and can help you decorate your garden. Actually, they grow on any supporting structure including walls, pillars and trellis.

Examples of climbers are Balze, Don Juan, Dortmund, Climbing Iceberg and Fourth of July.

Miniature

This is the smallest rose plants in all the types of roses. The smallest in bloom size, bush size and foliage. It flowers continuously and can be grown in pots.

Examples are Rainbow's End, Red Beauty, Tropical Twist and Rise 'N' Shine.
