Tropical Flowers For Something Different And Exotic

Besides tropical flowers like anthuriums, heliconias, orchids, proteas, gingers and birds of paradise, there are other types that you might be interested in.

Here, I would like to introduce you to some beautiful and exotic tropical flowers. These flowers are quite hard find in local florists although some might have them.

They grow in tropical countries where the sun is plenty and very fascinating to see.

Calathea

This type of flower has the shape of a rattlesnake's tail with small flowers emerging from it.

The stems are strong and hardy.

The varieties include green ice, white ice, black cigar, buttercup and pink rattle.

Costus

The shape of costus may vary depending on the region where it grows. Some resemble a pineapple top and some are just like normal blooming flowers.

Colours are a variety, ranging from green, yellow, red and purple.

Varieties are like red feathers, peruvian pineapple, pink crepe, vietnam lavender and eskimo kiss.

Hedychium

Hedychium is a fragrant flower. They are clusters of small flowers. Colours vary, too.

White, red, yellow, pink and purple. They can be found in India, Borneo and Thailand.

They usually bloom from July to October.

Pink Flame, Tac Moto, Angel Wings, Apricot and White Butterfly are some of the varieties.

Canna

Colours of cannas are plenty. Yellow, pink, red, green and burgundy.

It's petals are like frills and they will look beautiful if you have them in your garden.

Some of the varieties are China Lady, Confetti, Jester Pink, Red King and Picasso.

My favourite one is the La Boheme. Its orangy colour will make a great fall centerpiece.

Frangipani or Plumeria

Frangipanis are very fragrant and often used in making perfumes and essential oils because of its nice smell.

They are actually small but sweet flowers with colours like white, pink, red, yellow and can be a combination of these.

They usually have 5 petals, and their varieties are like Brancher Pink, Carmen, Celadine and Guillot Sunset.

Cindy Moragne is a beautiful variety because of its curled petals.

Passiflora

Passifloras are large flowers with a variety of shapes and colours.

They usually have filaments around the center of the flower. Not the kind of flower you see everyday.

Varieties are like Knight, Organensis, Lilikoi, Purple Haze, Blue Boutique and Coral Seas.

These tropical flowers can be made into beautiful flower arrangements. It only depends on your creativity.

If you have a Bali or Tropical inspired home, having these tropical flowers in your home would be the best home decorating project you ever had.
