Nageire Arrangements
Nageire arrangements that emphasizes on the shape of container, all views, vine materials, the area where it is placed and views from all angles. The Moribana can also have such 'themes', these are the examples of the Nageire. Emphasizing on Shape Of ContainerThis is a nageire arrangement emphasizing on shape of container. With that as the theme, we need an interesting container to work with. I chose a blue ceramic, quite low container. It is an oval shape with a hole in the middle. The mouth of the container is small, so a kenzan won't fit inside. The flowers have to be inserted directly inside the opening. Since, the container is oval in shape and we want to emphasize that, I tried to repeat the oval shape in the arrangement. I used two draceana leaves to create the oval shape. I slit an opening on one leaf and slip the other into it, like this.... As the focal flower, I used a big mauve anthurium.
Emphasizing On All ViewsAn all view nageire arrangement means that it is an all-round arrangement, it can be viewed from any angle. For this arrangement, I chose a tall glass container. For the materials, I chose two big birds nest leaves and let them 'connect' to each other when inserting them. Then, I put two sunflowers under the leaves. To complement the sunflowers, I put white mums, as well as johol leaves. Here's how the arrangement looks like from another angle... And another angle...
Emphasizing On Vine Materials In this nageire arrangement, we want to show how vines can be manipulated to be used in an arrangement. I picked some vines from my garden, and combined with yellow spider mums to make this arrangement. I chose a tall container with an interesting feature. You can see a small mouth near the opening of the container. Firstly, the vines are manipulated to form loops and they are inserted into the container. You can see that I made use of the interesting feature of the container by inserting vines into it. Then, I added the spider mums to add more color and contrast texture to the arrangement.
Incorporating The Area Where It Is PlacedIn this nageire arrangement, you need to utilize the space or area surrounding your container as part of your arrangement as a whole. You need to study your materials beforehand and think outside-the-box, how can it be placed to include the area around it. Here, I have this lovely brown container. As you can see, the opening is very small. Logically, you can't fit all the flowers into it. So, only fresh flowers or flowers that need water will be inserted into the small opening. And those that do not need water, can be placed outside the container. The materials I chose are red anthuriums and dried salix branches. The anthuriums are inserted into the container, but the branches are rested on the shoulders of the container. The branches extended out until the surface of the table. So as a whole, the arrangement is not restricted to the container, but also the area where it is placed.
Viewed From All Angles This is a freestyle nageire arrangement, whereby it emphasizes on a nageire to be viewed from all angles. To be viewed from all angles means, this arrangement is not one-sided and from whichever angle you look at it, you can see some designs. It is best that you use a rotating board when you are arranging this type of arrangement, as you can rotate while inserting the flowers. This way, you can create a balanced arrangement. In this particular nageire that I'm showing you, I used limoneum, pink stargazer lilies and variegated draceana leaves. They are arranged so that they look balanced in any angle. Here's from another angle. See more moribana and nageire variations...
