Moribana Flower Arrangements
There are many moribana flower arrangements, apart from the upright moribana and slanting moribana. Special themes, focusing on a feature can turn the arrangement into an attractive one. Themes like emphasizing on the surfaces of leaves, or using one kind of material to create a moribana, will create elegant ikebana pieces like the ones below. Freestyle Horizontal Here is an example of the freestyle horizontal moribana. A slightly tall container is used. With a kenzan inside. Horizontal means that it is a low arrangement. Freestyle means that it can be one-sided or two-sided with the same material on either side or different material on the other. In this moribana flower arrangement, I used paphiopedilum orchids as the focal flower. On the left side, I used two draceana leaves, while on the other is a philodendron leaf. The container is slightly tall, however, the flowers are arranged 'low'.
Freestyle Vertical Here is a freestyle vertical moribana arrangement. A low triangular container is used, with a kenzan placed inside. To create a vertical arrangement, you need tall flowers. I used draceana leaves to create the frame of this arrangement. The draceana leaves were folded at the end to create some interesting design to the arrangement. I used a stapler to secure the folded leaves. The focal flowers are the yellow gerberas. I also inserted a yellow dendrobium orchid in the middle to fill up the space. Overall, I can see the arrangement is very clean and clear-cut, with added special design.
Using One Kind Of Material Making this moribana flower arrangement is really quite simple. The theme is to use only one kind of material and I chose purple dendrobium orchids. I took a long plastic gold container and placed two kenzans on either side. Fill the container up with water and began arranging. Arrange so that the flowers have different height. Also, place some at the front and some at the back for different dimension. You can also consider this as a parallel arrangement.
Using Two KenzansI used pussy willow and yellow roses to create this moribana flower arrangement. A round ceramic shallow container is used and two kenzans are placed inside.
Emphasizing Lines At Base 'Base' here means the area near the opening of the vase or container. For this theme, we focus on the lines near the base. The lines can be straight line or curved lines. Those lines further create a beautiful arrangement at the top. Here, I used a round ceramic container, with a mini sunflower, a purple stock and a monstera leaf. All the materials I have chosen have straight branches, but nevertheless can create a beautiful arrangement on top.
Using Two Or More Containers In any flower arrangement, including ikebana, you can use two or more containers for one arrangement. It does not matter if the two are the same type or different, the important thing is how you arrange the flowers in two containers to make it look like they are in one arrangement. For this moribana flower arrangement here, I used two same containers but with different colors. One is white and the other is black. In both, I placed a kenzan in each. The materials I used are dried pussy willow and white eustomas. Look at how I have used the pussy willow branches creatively. I used them upside down and they are in between the containers. Just by doing this, I've created a unique arrangement and made it look interesting compared to if I have used them conventionally. See more themes like the ones above here...
