Ikebana Tools...Tools Used In Making Ikebana

Here, you will find information on ikebana tools, their names and their usage.

First and foremost, like other flower arranging techniques, you need scissors to prune the flowers.

For flower insertion, you need a kenzan. A kenzan, which means 'sword mountain' in japanese, is actually a metal plate with spikes to insert flower stems and hold it tightly in place.

You place in it the container. It usually comes in two shapes. A square kenzan or a round kenzan, choosing it will depend on the shape of the container.

Depending on the type of ikebana you are making, you need a suiban.

A suiban is a low shallow tray that is used as a container to make an Ikebana arrangement. Usually used in moribana arrangements.

There are many shapes and sizes available. Choose the appropriate size for your arrangement.

This is how a suiban looks like.

If you would like to make a standing arrangement, you need a tall vase. Ususally for nageire arrangements.

The tall vase also comes with many shapes, sizes and colours. Choose the colour according to the colour of your flowers.
