How To Prepare For Flower Arrangement

Have you found that you can't enjoy your flower arrangement for a long time?

There are several methods on how to make your flower arrangement lasts longer like changing water and recutting stems. But these methods seem like a lot of work and time.

Actually, these methods are exactly what your flower arrangement needs. By doing these methods, your flowers can absorb more water and lasts longer in your arrangement.

If you have a bad flower in your arrangement, it will also turn your healthy flowers to become bad so investing some time to apply these methods beforehand might be worth it.

You should do the following...

1. Remove non-blossoming buds

The steps...
- Take a floral scissors, then cut off non-blossoming buds from the flower

The reason...
If there are non-blossoming buds on the flower, believe it or not, this will prevent other buds from blossoming. It is better to remove them.

2. Remove dried/yellowish petals and leaves

The steps...
- Take a pair of floral scissors. then cut-off non-blossoming buds from the flower.

The reason...
When dried leaves/petals fall into the container containing water, they will contaminate the water. They will then promote bacteria in the water and cause your flower arrangement to die quickly.

3. Wash stem

The steps...
- Fill up a container with water
- Immerse stem in the water
- Wash the stem until the stickiness disappears
- If necessary, change the water multiple times until the stickiness is gone completely.

The reason...
Water in you flower container will turn bad because of rotten stem. Stem will rot becasue of bacteria growth. By cleaning off the bacteria on the stem, the life of the flowers could be prolonged.

4. Re-cut stems

The steps...
- Fill up some water in a container
- Immerse the stems in the water
- Cut off the end of the stem slantingly while in the water.

The reason...
When we cut the end of the stem again, the clogged part is taken off. This reveals a new surface where water can be absorbed more efficiently. Also, when we cut the stem slantingly, a bigger area for water absorption can be provided. This will make the flower absorb more water, thus last longer.

5. Wash the container

The steps...
- Put the flower container in a bucket of water.
- To the bucket of water, add some neutral cleanser or bleach
- Wash the flower container with a clean sponge.

The reason...
Before filling up the flower container with water for your arrangement, it is better to clean the container thoroughly. This is because bacteria might stick to the walls of the container and make water easily turn bad.

6. Add clean water

The steps...
- Fill up washed container with clean water
- Add some flower foods
- Stir the water so that the flower food is dissolved completely

The reason...
Flower food consists of materials to kill bacteria and also nutrients to enhance the flower's life. Bleacher or glucose can also be used as a substitute.
