How To Choose A Florist For Your Wedding

Here, I've prepared a guide on how to choose a florist for your wedding. To me, choosing a florist is an important decision to make.

Why?

A bad florist may ruin your most important day. For example, what if the florist you chose has no experience in doing flower arrangements for weddings?

What if the florist you chose has another wedding to take care of on the same day?And she forgets to make an arrangement for something important?

Planning a wedding successfully takes some experience and a good florist will have know how to plan, with your help of course.

So that's why I made this guide on how to choose a florist for your wedding.

Before choosing a florist...

  • Make a list of florists in your vicinity. Collect information from the directory or ask a few friends if they might know some good recommended florists. Make that list.

  • Make that list 6 months in advance. If your wedding falls during the holiday season, the florist you want may be busy. So, prepare early.

  • Make an appointment to meet in person. Don't discuss details over the phone.

  • Before meeting the florist, it is better for you to have an idea on how you want your wedding to be. Maybe you saw some wedding photos in the magazine and liked it. Bring it along. The florist might have a better idea.

  • Before meeting the florist, make sure you have selected your wedding gown. If possible, bring a sample of your wedding colour and the type of fabric. It is easier for the florist to match the gown colour with the type of flowers for your wedding, instead of just describing the colour by words.

A Good Wedding Florist Is Someone Who....

  • listens to you and open to your suggestions and ideas.

  • can deliver the flowers you request.

  • can provide you good advice and alternatives if the flowers you request are not available.

  • can nicely match flowers to your wedding gown

  • can guarantee the delivery of your flowers on time.

  • can guarantee the freshness of your flowers

  • willingly get to know you and anticipates your preference

  • adheres to your budget.

  • writes everything down in the contract to avoid misunderstandings.

Questions To Ask Him/Her

  • Has she worked in the location where your wedding is taking place? If she has, she will know what are the do's and dont's.

  • Is the price inclusive of delivery and setting up the venue? Be clear on this.

  • What are the type of flowers that are in season when your wedding takes place? She should know this.

  • Have her show photos of her previous works. They should give you some great ideas, too.

  • Does the florist require a deposit to book a date?

  • When does she actually make the flower arrangements? This determines freshness.

  • Does she know any caterers that she could recommend?

Lastly, don't be afraid to negotiate the price. This is your wedding and you are the one who most understand your budget.

How to choose a florist also depends on how comfortable you are with the florist. Be open with your ideas and have confidence in them.
