Tips On How To Care For Cut Flowers

When you buy fresh flowers from the florist, you always think twice because whenever you do, you only get to enjoy them for a short time.

How to care for cut flowers to make them last longer?

Below are some tips to help you. I also practice them when I buy fresh flowers from the market.

  • Put your fresh flowers in a bucket of water. Cut the end of the stems slantingly. By doing this, you provide abigger surface area for the stem to absorb water. Your flowers can last longer.

  • When you cut the end of the stems, do it under the water. If you cut them above the water, air will be trapped insidethe stems and cause a clog and water absorption will be difficult.

  • When you deal with flowers with thorns, don't remove the thorns above the water. This may cause air blocking the stems and lead topremature wilting

  • Also, don't leave the leaves under the water. The leaves will promote bacterial growth inside the container. What will happen is your stems will absorb whateveris in the water and gradually die.

  • When you place your flowers in a container, make sure the container is clean. One tiny dirt will promote bacterial growth in the container and you won't getto enjoy your flowers.

  • Change the water in the container everyday if you want your fresh flowers to last.

  • Avoid placing your flowers near a heat source. This will cause premature wilting

These are not really hard to do tasks. If you know how to care for cut flowers and do it, you can enjoy the beauty and freshness of your fresh flowers longer.
