Floral Events I Have Visited
Whenever I have the means (this means, $$$), I would certainly visit floral events held in my country or neighbouring country. It is fun to see the floral displays from the exhibition and the creativity displayed by the participating florists. Also, by going to a particular event, I get a chance to go for a family holiday, so it is something not to be missed. It is something that I look forward to every year, and something that I want to share with you, showing you what is going on in the floral industry in this part of the world. In this page, you can find information about the events that I have visited. You can find pictures that I have taken from the show. Just click on the particular event that you are interested in, and off you go.. I will be adding more events as I visit them.....so always come back to this page for more updates, OK? - 45th Ikebana Glittering Sapphire Celebration Annual Exhibition and Demonstration Kuala Lumpur Chapter 72
This year's Ikebana International Chapter 72's 45th anniversary celebration ended with a bang. I attended the event on 21st May 2009 at Parkroyal Hotal, Kuala Lumpur. I think all the attendees did not know what to expect for this year's event and let me tell you that we were surprised. The event started with an opening speech by the Honourable Patron, Mrs. Yoko Horie, who is the Japan ambassador's wife to Malaysia. Surprisingly, her husband, His Excellency Masahiko Horie, Japan's Ambassador to Malaysia was also present as the Guest Of Honour. Her speech was followed by the President's speech and the Exhibition Chairman's speech, thanking everyone is their efforts to make the event a successful one. Next in the agenda, was a Koto and Flute Performance by Mrs. Sube and Mr. Mihara. They played a piece called "Chidori no Koe", which meant the Singing Bird. Then, Sensei Kobayashi Yuka from the Sogetsu School of Japan, who was specially flown from the Land Of The Rising Sun, began her demonstration. To find out more about the demonstration and look at her demonstrated pieces, click here. After her informational demonstration, we were again entertained with a short performance. This time, a dance performance using fans. The two dancers were dressed so beautifully. Then, the highlight of the event was a Floral Headdress Show. We were surprised to see models started coming out with big hats decorated with flowers. To see the beautiful floral headdresses, click here. The walkway leading to the event venue were decorated with beautiful ikebana arrangements that were contributed by the members. To view these ikebana arrangements, click on the links below. The last agenda was the lucky draw and for the record, i did not win anything. But all's fine because I really enjoyed myself and I thought that the theme of 'Glittering Sapphire' was really an appropriate one. This annual flower event was held from 1 - 9 August 2009 at the Putrajaya lakeside in Putrajaya, Malaysia. I had the chance to visit the exhibition on the second day. It was early in the morning, so there were not many visitors around and I could enjoy the flowers without the hustle and bustle. The entrance to the exhibition was decorated with banners and a huge arch. There were a lot of activities going on in the week, like the Orchid Display, Garden Bazaar, Hort Mart, Garden Showcase and Agro Ornamental Garden but the one I'm interested in was a visit to the Floral Pavillion. It is where creatively arranged flower arrangements are housed. If you want to see what's on display in the Floral Pavillion, come with me! And here are some photos around the exhibition area... I wonder what's in store in Putrajaya Floria 2010?
