Floral Events I Have Visited

2009 was quite a busy year for me, too...

Despite from having my second child, I managed to visit several floral events that proved to be worthwhile. All arrangements from these events really amazed me, as they were very creative and original.

The events I visited were

  • 45th Ikebana Glittering Sapphire Celebration Annual Exhibition and Demonstration Kuala Lumpur Chapter 72

  • Putrajaya Floria 2009

  • 2009 Christmas Floral Design Exhibition And Demonstration

We'll start with...

  • 45th Ikebana Glittering Sapphire Celebration Annual Exhibition and Demonstration Kuala Lumpur Chapter 72

This year's Ikebana International Chapter 72's 45th anniversary celebration ended with a bang.

I attended the event on 21st May 2009 at Parkroyal Hotal, Kuala Lumpur.

I think all the attendees did not know what to expect for this year's event and let me tell you that we were surprised.

The event started with an opening speech by the Honourable Patron, Mrs. Yoko Horie, who is the Japan ambassador's wife to Malaysia.

Surprisingly, her husband, His Excellency Masahiko Horie, Japan's Ambassador to Malaysia was also present as the Guest Of Honour.

Her speech was followed by the President's speech and the Exhibition Chairman's speech, thanking everyone is their efforts to make the event a successful one.

Next in the agenda, was a Koto and Flute Performance by Mrs. Sube and Mr. Mihara. They played a piece called "Chidori no Koe", which meant the Singing Bird.

Then, Sensei Kobayashi Yuka from the Sogetsu School of Japan, who was specially flown from the Land Of The Rising Sun, began her demonstration.

After her informational demonstration, we were again entertained with a short performance. This time, a dance performance using fans. The two dancers were dressed so beautifully.

Then, the highlight of the event was a Floral Headdress Show. We were surprised to see models started coming out with big hats decorated with flowers.

The walkway leading to the event venue were decorated with beautiful ikebana arrangements that were contributed by the members.

The last agenda was the lucky draw and for the record, i did not win anything.

But all's fine because I really enjoyed myself and I thought that the theme of 'Glittering Sapphire' was really an appropriate one.

  • Putrajaya Floria 2009

This annual flower event was held from 1 - 9 August 2009 at the Putrajaya lakeside in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

I had the chance to visit the exhibition on the second day. It was early in the morning, so there were not many visitors around and I could enjoy the flowers without the hustle and bustle.

The entrance to the exhibition was decorated with banners and a huge arch.

There were a lot of activities going on in the week, like the Orchid Display, Garden Bazaar, Hort Mart, Garden Showcase and Agro Ornamental Garden but the one I'm interested in was a visit to the Floral Pavillion.

It is where creatively arranged flower arrangements are housed. If you want to see what's on display in the Floral Pavillion, come with me!

And here are some photos around the exhibition area...

I wonder what's in store in Putrajaya Floria 2010?

  • 2009 Christmas Floral Exhibition And Demonstration

It's that season of the year again. Where lights, poinsettias, bells and pine cones come together.

This year, we had a Christmas Floral Exhibition and Demonstration event held at Parkroyal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

I had the opportunity to participate in this wonderful event.

The floral exhibition were themed-around christmas and you can see really beautiful works of art on display there.

I really felt like I want to share those beautiful pieces so, please on the links below to admire them.

Besides the exhibition, there was a demonstration done by Sally See, one of the country's renowned floral designer.

Since the theme was christmas, she demonstrated 7 lovely pieces, which can be viewed here.

It was such a lovely evening, with great food served and there was a surprise for all of us. During the demonstration, Santa Clause came in distributing gifts for everyone.

What a lovely surprise.

At the end of the event, all the exhibitors who put an arrangement at the exhibition received their Certificate Of Appreciation and had their photograph taken.

The event ended with everyone wished themselves "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year".
