Exciting Scenes From 2008 Floral Events

2008 has been quite a busy year for me, I visited three floral events. All of which were very inspirational.

  • 44th Annual Ikebana International Kuala Lumpur Chapter 72 Exhibition
  • LAMAN 2008
  • Floral Exhibition and Demonstration by Mr.Anson Low, AIFD

The year started off with me visiting the annual ikebana exhibition. Let's see what happened there...

  • 44th Annual Ikebana International Kuala Lumpur Chapter 72 Exhibition

On 26th June 2008, I had the opportunity to attend the annual exhibition of Ikebana International Kuala Lumpur Chapter 72 at Parkroyal, Hotel.

That was the first time I had attended an ikebana show and it was full of class...

Our former Queen was the VVIP of the event. The theme of the event was 'Evergreen' and coincidentally, the Queen wore a green traditional costume.

The event went by smoothly. First, the Queen toured the ikebana exhibits that were on display.

Then, when everyone were seated in the ballroom, the MC started off with the speech from the President, then, Honourable Patron, who is the wife of Japan's Ambassador to Malaysia.

Later on, the speech from the Vice President. Then, the highlight of the day was the demonstration by two Ikebana masters, who were flown specially from Japan.

Master Zayasu Naomi from Kozan School and Master Sunabe Ritsuko from Misyo School.

The day ended with me, smiling all the way home because I got to witness beautiful works of ikebana...

  • LAMAN 2008

From 19 - 27 July 2008, the Perdana Lake Gardens Kuala Lumpur was filled with beautiful florals and beautifully landscaped gardens.

During that time, the Malaysia International Landscape and Garden Festival 2008 was held.

There were more than 20 gardens decorated by landscape companies and nurseries, bazaars selling gardening products, fun contests for the children and also flower arrangement competition.

The weather was fine that morning as I headed out to the festival. Here's a picture of the entrance to the park.

I could see beautiful gardens along the way to the Floral Enclave, an indoor air-conditioned tent where the flower arrangements were housed.

Inside the Floral Enclave, there were many sections of flower creations. The Theme Showcase display booths decorated with flowers surrounding a theme. The Four Season Showcase displayed flowers arrangement surrounding each season.

The International Showcase were contributed by floral designers from overseas. This year, an interesting concept was introduced, the Grand Entrance section, that shows how the entrance of your home can be decorated.

You could also see several Flower Sculptures where flowers were turned into pieces of art. Amazing!

A few Designer Arrangements were on display, as well as beautiful creative Flower Arrangements from the competition.

Not forgetting the Ikebana Displays section where unique ikebana arrangements were displayed.

The entire journey through the Floral Enclave was indeed an overwhelming one.

  • Floral Exhibition and Demonstration by Mr.Anson Low, AIFD

On 16 November 2008, I had a chance to attend the floral exhibition and demonstration by Anson Low, the principal and master trainer of Nobleman School Of Floral Design, Singapore.

He was here by invitation because of his many contributions in the floral design industry, as well as his unique designs.

The beautiful ceremony was held at a 5-star hotel in Subang Jaya. It started with registration of the guests.

Then, a speech by the president of IFD (International Floral Design & Education Association) was delivered. She was overwhelmed by the interest shown by the local floral designers, as the event received very good response.

After a short speech by the president, lunch was served. I had to mention here that the lunch was simply delicious! The only drawback was the time between each dish is served is quite long. I had the guests waiting.

During lunch, we sat back, relax and enjoy the slide show of Mr.Anson's previous designs and exhibitions.

After our stomachs were being taken care of, the demonstration starts. Mr.Anson demonstrated 14 pieces all together.

Each with a different design and technique. We loved all his ideas. We sat watching attentively while he demonstrated.

He even asked why us "You guys don't have to go to toilet?". We all laughed.

We were so excited, we did not want to miss a sec of his demonstration. To view the marvellous pieces he demonstrated for us, click on the link below.

In conjunction with him coming over to demonstrate his designing skills, there were also a small exhibition where the local designers showed their talents in interesting pieces.

After the demonstration was over, all the guests mingled around, exchanging views and name cards....

It was really an enjoyable evening. It was an evening spent worth-while.
