A Christmas Is Not A Christmas Without Christmas Trees

Getting christmas trees for christmas can be a hassle. Lacking of knowledge will end you up buying the wrong type of tree and with low qualities.

Here are some of the best types of christmas trees, how to choose one and how to buy one.

The Types And Characteristics

There is a variety out there to choose from. But here are some common ones.

The Fraser Fir has dark green needles about 0.5 to 1 inch long. It has excellent needle retention and a nice scent as well.

The Douglas Fir has 1 to 1.5 inches long needles. It is in a shape of cone but hang down downwards.

The Balsam Fir has short, flat, long-lasting aromatic needles. The colour is dark green with a particular fragrant.

The Colorado Blue Spruce has dark green to almost blue needles. Its needles are fairly long with up to 3 inches of length.

The Scotch Pine has excellent retention but quite hard branches.

The Eastern Red Cedar branches are light with dark and shiny needles.

The White Spruce has green close to blue coloured needles. The needles has poorretention which makes it suitable for heavy ornaments.

The Eastern White Pine has no fragrance and not really suitable for heavy ornaments.

The tree with a nice aroma is the White Fir. It has good needle retention, too.

Some other trees that you should know of are the Virginia Pine, Noble Fir, Leyland Cypress, Carolina Sapphire, Norway Spruce, Afghan Pine and others.

After you have one particular christmas tree in mind, you should also know how to choose the freshest of the trees.

How To Choose A Good Christmas Tree

Here are some tips for you on how to choose a good christmas tree :

  • A tree with short needles is preferable. It is easier to be decorated and provide more space for ornaments.

  • Choose a tree with strong stems so that it can hold the ornaments better.

  • Choose a tree with dark, shiny, green needles. That shows that the tree is fresh. When you see a tree with brown-coloured needles, it shows that the tree is dry and not fresh.

  • Before buying a christmas tree, you must decide where to put it. Then, measure the tree that you intend to buy. Consider also the top ornament which requires an extra height.

Now that you're prepared to buy a good christmas tree, let's look at how to buy them.

How To Buy

  • Retail Lot
Buying trees from a retail lot is a bit risky. After spending your time travelling to get there, you cannever be sure that you'll get a really good fresh tree.

During the holiday season, this place is overcrowded which makes selection difficult. It is already hard enough because you don't know for how long the tree has already been cut. Some growers put articial colouring to cover up brown needles.

  • Choose-and-Cut Farms
Survey the farm and pick your own tree. The grower will provide you with a saw for you to do the cutting or you could ask them to do it for you.

This has to be done near Christmas Day because you want to maintain its freshness.

  • Buy Online
This is where you buy direct from the grower. Doing this, you save your time going all the way to the farm to buy your christmas tree.

When you buy online, the grower will ship the tree via a courier service straight to your doorstep. The grower alsoprovides special packing to avoid damage to your tree while transporting.

  • Mail Order
Ordering through mail is also one way to buy christmas trees. It is just as simple as ordering through the internet.

Normally, you would just print out an order form from the grower's web page, fill it up and mail it to the mailing address specified.

Whichever way you choose, your order will be confirmed by a phone call from the supplier.
